ROB RUN Beginner Guide: Your First Hour in Looty Bay
A practical ROB RUN beginner guide: the first-hour route, death rules, first robbery, fence sale and the one purchase that actually compounds.
Quick answer. Start as a Hobo with no cash. Walk Looty Bay without a mask, scout one small store, rob it, sell the cargo at a fence van, then spend the profit on a rented plot instead of a better gun. The first plot turns one lucky run into a repeatable one.
- Do not mask up until you have seen the exits.
- Your first death should cost a bag, not a base.
- Bank cash before you go shopping.
- Buy storage and a workbench before you buy a rifle.

Finish the intro task, collect the free pistol, then bank any cash before you try a heist.
What you start with
You begin as a Hobo: fresh out of prison, no cash, no property, sleeping at Lenny's Motel. The intro quests point you toward Lenny, and his motel is also the place where cash can be stored early on. Your starting gear is deliberately disposable.
The first thing the game does not tell you clearly: you are not a criminal until you put on a mask. An unmasked player can walk through Looty Bay, watch a store, count the exits and leave. Use that. Ten minutes of scouting is worth more than ten minutes of shooting.
The first-hour route
1. Walk the city unmasked
Pick a district with foot traffic and learn three things: where the target is, where the nearest fence van sits, and which street you will use to leave. Do not enter a store just because the door is open.
The map marks a van with a dollar sign in Looty Bay, plus Sales Centers elsewhere. That van is your exit. If you do not know where it is before the robbery, you are not ready to rob.
2. Rob one small target
Corner stores and similar small shops are the right first job. They finish quickly, the bag fills fast, and the loss is survivable. Keep staff at gunpoint so they do not raise the alarm, take what fits, and leave before the police arrive.
You can read the full target ladder in the heist guide→, but the beginner rule is simpler: one bag, one exit, no second trip.
3. Sell immediately
Take the cargo to the fence and sell it. Pick the cash up off the counter immediately; the game lets other players steal or confiscate money left there. This is not a theoretical risk. It is the first place a new player loses an entire run's profit.
Cargo values vary by location and by your notoriety, so the number on the fence screen is the only number that matters. The loot value table→ gives the community-tracked base values if you want to plan a bag before you fill it.
4. Bank the cash
Open an account at the Looty Bay Bank as a civilian. Cash in your pocket can be stolen or confiscated; banked money is safe from theft until the next wipe. You can withdraw at any ATM.
Do not skip this because the bank is out of the way. A single death with a full wallet sets you back further than a single death with an empty one.
5. Rent a plot
Plots can only be rented in a settlement that already has an owner. Find a vacant plot, pay at the sign next to it, and you have a base. Level 2 and level 3 districts require special documents from the Black Market, so your first plot will usually be in a level 1 settlement.
The base is a second respawn point. That alone changes how you play: you can start a run from your own side of the map instead of the default spawn.
6. Build the boring things first
A workbench, storage and a bed matter more than a decorated main room. The main building ships with a laptop, a first aid kit and a few cabinets; everything else is placed from items you buy, loot or take off other players.
Base building is item-driven, which means an empty base is normal on day one. Read the base guide→ before you spend on walls. A wall that is not backed by a Security System is a speed bump.
The death rules you need before your first fight
ROB RUN does not have one death penalty. It has four, and they depend on where you are and which role you picked.
| Situation | What you lose | What you keep |
|---|---|---|
| Criminal dies in Looty Bay | Inventory and bag | Nothing equipped is safe unless you surrender |
| Criminal surrenders to police | Bag contents | Equipped gear |
| Civilian dies in the city | Nothing | Bag and equipped gear |
| Police officer dies | Department-issued gear | Personal items and equipment |
| Anyone dies in the desert | All loot | — |
The practical lesson: your bag is the risk, your equipped gear is the insurance. If a cop corners you and you cannot win, surrender. You lose the cargo but keep the gun. If you have cash in the bank, you may also offer a bribe; if the officer accepts, you keep the whole bag.
Do not fight every arrest. The jail timer is a cost, not a death sentence, and a surrendered bag can be refilled. A lost gun cannot.
What to ignore in the first hour
- Do not buy a rifle from the Black Market yet. Weapons also spawn as city loot, and a better gun does not fix a bad exit.
- Do not join a clan on day one unless you already know the players. Clan membership survives the wipe, but clan politics can consume a new player's whole cycle.
- Do not chase a player you wounded. The moment you leave your route, you are the one being scouted.
- Do not carry every dollar. Bank before you shop, every time.
A realistic first-session checklist
- Finish the intro and talk to Lenny.
- Walk two districts unmasked.
- Rob one small store and sell the cargo.
- Open a bank account and deposit the profit.
- Rent a level 1 plot.
- Place a workbench and storage.
- Log out with an empty bag and a bank balance.
That is a successful first session. It will not look impressive on a stats screen, but it gives you something most new players do not have: a spawn point, a storage container and a reason to survive the next run.

FAQ
How do I make money fast as a new player?
Rob one small store, sell the cargo at a fence, and bank the cash. Repeat with a second store only after you know the exit. Cargo hauling and base production become better once you have storage.
Do I lose my gun when I die in ROB RUN?
It depends on your role and whether you surrender. A criminal who surrenders keeps equipped gear and loses the bag. A criminal who dies in Looty Bay loses the inventory. Read the table above before you fight.
Where do I buy weapons in ROB RUN?
Weapons spawn as city loot and can be bought on the Black Market, either from Lenny directly or through the laptop at your base.
Can I rent a base on the first day?
Yes, if the settlement has an owner and a vacant plot. You need the rent money, and level 2 or 3 districts require special documents from the Black Market.
